The 2009 Historic Homes Tour: Yalecrest

1576yale

Utah Heritage Foundation held its annual Historic Homes Tour on May 2, 2009, from 10 AM to 5 PM in the Yalecrest neighborhood of Salt Lake City.  Yalecrest is Salt Lake City's newest National Register-listed Historic District, formally receiving that designation in November 2007.   Utah Heritage Foundation held historic home tours in the Normandie Heights and Gilmer Park subdivisions of what became the Yalcrest Historic District in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and this year we featured the Yale and Upper Yale Park neighborhoods.

In addition to other annual benefits, members of Utah Heritage Foundation received a $5 discount on the $20 regular, day-of ticket price.  Tickets were required for admission to all homes on the tour.  Children able to walk must have a ticket.  It was a rain and shine event, and all ticket sales are final.

Tour Information

The Historic Homes Tour featured nine homes on Yale Avenue, Yalecrest Avenue, Michigan Drive, and Military Drive, around 1500 East and 1000 South.  The tour was self-paced and self-guided; you could visit any of the nine homes for as long as you want from 10 AM to 5 PM, when the homes closed.   The homes are not available for private tours or visits after our tour is over.   The tour program featured a map of all the homes on the tour, along with brief descriptions, and Utah Heritage Foundation docents explained the architecture, history, and significance of each home.

Lost and Found

Four umbrellas and one pair of eyeglasses were returned to our tour headquarters.  The umbrellas are:

  • Navy blue with a wood handle and silver buttons, Totes brand.
  • Black with a silver handle.
  • Black with a black plastic handle smaller than the diameter of the folded umbrella.
  • Green with Salt Lake City Public Library logo printed on the umbrella, black handle with instructions on closing.
The glasses are black and red plaid rimmed with thin half-circle lenses.  A gentleman also lost his umbrella with a Princeton University seal on it, but it was not returned to us.  If you have further questions, please contact (801) 533-0858 extension 107.
